This has had to be the best Active School’s week ever!
The children experienced such a variety of physical activities as well as trying some new challenges and experiences.
After a week full of intensive physical activity, energy, laughter and fun, the children cooled down with an ice-cream!
They had a fantastic time and they practiced and refined many of their Fundamental Movement Skills as outlined in the Move Well, Move Often Teacher Resource Guide.
These resource materials compliment the teaching of the Irish Primary School P.E Curriculum.
The whole aim of the Physical Education (P.E) Curriculum is to develop every child’s physical literacy.
A physically literate child has the movement competence, confidence and understanding to continue participation
in physical activity throughout their lives.
Summary of the Strands of the P.E Curriculum
Throughout the week’s activities the children had to use their:
- Locomotor Skills (walking, running, hopping, skipping, jumping, dodging, side stepping), stability and balancing skills.
- Stability Skills (Balancing and landing)
- Manipulative Skills (catching, throwing, kicking, striking with the hand, striking with an implement) (These Fundamental Movement Skills have been taught throughout the school year – integrated into the teaching of each Strand of the P.E Curriculum).

Active School Week is scheduled to take place on the week beginning June 13th 2022
This is an exciting, fun and physically active week for the children.
They will partake in lots of Physical Activity and P.E activities.
There will be lots of new activities to take part in. There will only be P.E homework for that week!
There will be a timetable of activities daily for all classes.
Active School Week will run from Monday 13th of June to Friday 17th of June 2022
This is going to be a week filled with lots of physical activities and fun.
We are currently brainstorming ideas for activities for the week
. Each class has a suggestion box.
The children are encouraged to share their ideas and suggestions.
We also carried out pupil and parent questionnaires in order to gain a better insight of parental and pupil awareness and opinions on the Active School Flag activities being carried out on our journey towards achieving the Active School Flag.
Naul N.S values the parents and pupils suggestions and we aim to include as many of them as we can in our approach to being an Active School.
We have been participating in ASW for 4 years. It is only in the past year that the Active School Flag section of our website has been developed.
This year we plan to raise awareness for ASW amongst the parents not just the pupils. Our website will have updates after Easter break.
From our recent Parent Questionnaire it came to our attention that some parents were unaware that Active School Week took place.
It normally takes place on the week of Sports day (which falls on the Friday).
Each day has a different sports challenge, game or physical activity timetabled.
There will be whole school Fun Day on the Friday. This involves lots of fun outdoor activities such as obstacle courses, parachutes and a Bouncy Castle obstacle course.
The children will wear their tracksuits to school for the week. They will have active homework each day.
Once all suggestions have been gathered, the Active School committee will help draw up a timetable of activities for the week.
This will be uploaded as soon as it is ready.
Please keep a look out here for updates, developments and photo’s of our Active school!
All classes currently have suggestion bags in their rooms.
The children are encouraged to give their suggestions and ideas for new activities for Active School’s Week.
This ensures that ASW remains fun and interesting for everyone involved!
Please chat to your child at home about any suggestions or ideas that they may have or that you think may help make our ASW enjoyable and unique!
